The 7 Step Selling Process
The myth that selling property is hard has allowed estate agents to keep charging high commission rates. This costs home owners thousands each time they sell even though the internet is the perfect medium for finding a buyer privately.Below, we've set out the steps you need to follow to sell your home privately.
Once you see how simple selling is we think you'll understand why more and more people are abandoning estate agents and selling privately instead.
So, here is the 7 step selling process:
- Value your home.
- Order a Home Information Pack (HIP).
- Take photos and prepare a description of your home.
- Add these to House Hop.
- Receive enquiries and arrange viewings.
- Negotiate with interested buyers and accept an offer.
- Appoint a solicitor to handle the sale.
Most of these steps are things you would have to do yourself anyway, even if you did pay an estate agent.
This is even true of valuation, which people usually think of as the job of the estate agent. The truth is, to ensure you get what your house is worth you must always do your own independent valuation. As an example of why:

The Listing Process
Listing on House Hop is FREE.We have broken the process down into a system of clear concise steps. Our aim is to make the selling process as easy as possible.
Our online Sales Wizard makes listing your home simple and is much quicker than going through a traditional agent — your home can be advertised to millions of potential Buyers in less than an hour.
Just go to the Home page or the Selling page, click on the button that says "Sell your home" and complete the four step template by adding:
- your address
- the price and a general description of the property
- a brief description of each room plus the dimensions
- up to 20 photos
You can either type your descriptions directly into the template or prepare them in advance and cut and paste. When you click "browse" in step 4 your computer's "My Pictures" folder will automatically open up so you can click on the photos you want. Easy!
Once you've completed your listing it will be displayed on the House Hop site and automatically sent to our network of property search portals.
And if you later want to update your advert or change or add pictures you can do so at any time. Any changes you make will update automatically on the entire network of sites.
Your property will remain listed until you either sell it or you decide to take it off the market.Your Personal Details Are Secure
We don't publish your personal details. Buyers email you via a link on the site and you can respond in the same way.If and when you are comfortable doing so, you can exchange contact details with the buyer and communicate safely using your normal email account or by phone.
